Automation methods

Only one element is added to the overall design - a relay, and everything worked! The relay switches on and off the hood depending on temperature, humidity or gas response. That is, the first step is to select a control parameter.

Kitchen appliance manufacturers offer turnkey solutions. Extractor / hob kits for sale. In them, the synchronization of work is provided by radio modules. When the surface turns on, its radio module gives a signal to the hood, it turns on. The hob switches off - the hood receives a signal to switch off.

Self-powered hood automation

The most popular, simple and reliable independent way to automate the hood is to include a thermal relay in the system. It should be noted that a thermostat and a thermocontroller are one and the same.

The thermocontroller makes it easy to change the temperature on and off the device. Therefore, the optimal response parameters of the relay can be selected independently, by trial and error.

This thermocontroller operates on a 220 V network. The control voltage for the hood is also 220 V. It is necessary to take into account the power of the thermal relay. The device shown is rated at 1500 watts. That is, they can adjust the hood with a power of up to 1500 W. If the power of the hood is greater, say 1700 W, then the relay should be of no less power. Otherwise, at maximum loads, the temperature controller may fail. For example, if the hood will be operated at 3rd speed.

However, home hoods with such a high energy consumption, fortunately, no longer exist in nature.

How to connect a thermal relay

There are two ways.

  1. To the power outlet of the hood. The relay will turn the outlet on and off.
  2. Inside the hood. The relay is installed in front of the power buttons of the device.

In the first case, the thermal relay works in more comfortable conditions, since the temperature inside the hood is higher than outside.

The sensor is installed in the lower cover of the hood. You can place it in the center or on the edge of the lid. A matter of taste.

In this case, the sensor is installed on the edge and brought out. Some craftsmen install it under the filter. There is no fundamental difference.

When the relay is activated, the cooker hood starts to run at the speed you set. 

System Setup

All adjustment is reduced to setting the temperature on and off the hood. In order for the hood to start working as soon as possible after the burner is turned on, the switch-on temperature is set 2-3 degrees higher than the temperature in the apartment. In this case, the relay is activated within a minute. Shutdown 1–2 degrees higher. After turning off the stove, the hood will work for some time, which is necessary to remove residual moisture and odors.

If you want to save energy, the switch-off temperature must be set higher. Typically, the switch-on temperature is set to 30 ° C, the switch-off temperature to 29 ° C. With these parameters, the cooker hood will start working within a minute after turning on the hotplate. It will stop within 2 minutes after turning off the stove . It is not difficult to choose the optimal mode by trial and error.

Selecting and configuring the temperature controller

The controller shown in the figure is controlled by two buttons. A short press of the left one increases the temperature in increments of 0.1 ° C, which is reflected on the light board. Long hold of the button - fixes the desired switch-on temperature. Likewise, the right button sets the hood off parameter.

Some controllers can be calibrated, for example, based on the boiling point of water. To automate an existing hood, they are not needed, since they are more expensive, and the accuracy of temperature measurement is not important. Experienced, the owner can easily set the response time of the device.
