The California University of Science and Medicine College of Medicine is a joint association of the California University of California at Los Angeles and the University of Southern California at Los Angeles. The combined campus is dedicated to the mission of preparing students to become tomorrow's health care professionals. Graduates from the combined campuses are expected to have a strong desire to advance their careers and practice an assortment of health-related professions.

History of University of California:

The California University of Science and Medicine's School of Medicine has a long and distinguished history. Established in 1872, the college serves as a research university providing doctors with cutting-edge knowledge about the most recent advances in medicine and other allied health sciences. Today's students will be equipped with the latest tools and techniques in diagnosing and treating various ailments. A new emphasis is placed on prevention and wellness education, particularly in regard to promoting weight control, reducing illness due to stress, and promoting healthy well-being. An entire division is devoted to clinical and teaching hospital recruitment and placement, focusing on teaching the proper use and management of medical equipment.

The original campus was established at the College of Medical California, located in San Francisco. The main campus is located at the southern end of Los Angeles. In addition to medical school, the college offers degrees in business, nursing, pharmacy, nutrition, radiology, pathology, physical therapy, and other health-related programs. The school's affiliation with the California University School of Optometry and the Department of Health Services makes it one of the few institutions in the nation to be accredited by both the American Association of College of Optometrists (AACO) and the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Applications (CAHIAP).

The mission of California University of Science:

The mission of California University of Science and Medicine, founded in 1966 by the merger of the California State University and the California University of Agricultural Sciences, is to advance health services and advance the science of health. The school serves as a forum for education, research, and service to the underserved and underrepresented areas of the state. The campus is located in five counties, including California's most populous, Los Angeles. Of the five counties, the largest, San Diego, has the largest concentration of people of color and the lowest percentage of people without a high school degree.

Mission Statements:

One of the mission statements of the school is to serve the California underserved patient by preparing them for the challenging professions of primary care, medicine, dentistry, nursing, and other health care professions. Through its affiliation with the California State University system and the Department of Health Services, it offers an array of benefits for persons who are interested in the medical field but have not yet been accredited.

"The first thing you want to do is get your science degree from a school that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or CAAHEP," said Dr. Mary E. Plummer, California University of Science and Medicine's Academic Director. "We strongly recommend that you contact CAAHEP immediately because they will be able to tell you what is going on with your state's health educational agencies." San Francisco State University was one of the first schools to join the CAAHEP and became one of its member institutions. The University now serves as a local member of the CAAHEP.

In addition to providing students with coursework in the sciences, the school provides support for its faculty, staff, administration, and other affiliates. One of its goals is to promote and develop collaboration among its faculty members. It also supports the participation of physicians in clinical trials. A portion of each year's revenues goes to benefit the University's medical research program. The campus has also joined with the California University of Pain Medicine, the California College of Surgeons, Kaiser Permanente, the American College of Surgeons, the California Poison Control Center, and the National Institute on Dealing with Drug Problems to form a partnership called the California University of Science and Medicine Research Trust.

Different campuses of the university: 

There are several campuses and branches of the college in California, which provide degree programs with majors in the disciplines of mathematics and chemistry as well as a minor in Health Services. The School of Public Health offers degree programs in diabetes and cardiovascular sciences, while the College of Nursing offers degrees in nursing and related programs. The Clinical and Translational Sciences Program is a joint effort between the school and the California State University Department of Health Services. It provides training in the areas of diagnostic medicine, treatments, and prevention of diseases affecting those with chronic illnesses.

The Medical Institute of Minnesota, founded in 1966, has campuses in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and California. At the University of Califonia, there are several branches. It offers programs in the fields of pediatrics, adult basic health, geriatrics, medical assistant, medical sonography, pharmacy, pathology, radiology, physical medicine, pharmacology, and uterus, among others. Other programs offer degrees in health and nutrition, nursing, pharmacy, obstetrics/women's health, psychology, statistics, physiology, science, and public health.
