Single Parent - Accept the Challenges of Education

Single parenting a young child means dealing with social and societal family networks in contexts relevant to parenting. Finding the balance between caring for your children and managing other social obligations and issues that may arrive is an important part of your child's developmental process, and of your parental responsibility.

Education -

Learning begins at home. With a growing family, you've probably realized that your impact on your child's education is dramatic. You can continue having a massive impact on their education and developmental knowledge as well as on their dedication to learning by taking time out to constructively manage your child's educational process. Whether you choose to embark on the adventure of home schooling your children or pursue the public/private school option, your input in the educational process is profound, both for your child and for your child's future educational opportunity. Rise to the challenge of educating your child in the most effective manner possible.

Celebration -

Events of magnitude happen every day, as parents we must learn how to motivate our children to accomplishment and how to encourage them through the obstacles of life. These elevational moments of life are celebrations of success. Rewards for progress or achievements should be relevant to the child. Some children are more outgoing and appreciate public acknowledgement of their successes, other children would be more likely to appreciate a quiet moment of recognition with just Mom or Dad applauding their success. The celebration should fit the child as well as the accomplishment, not just your view of the accomplishment.

Promotion -

Children respond well to parents who promote their interests as a part of the family's activities and adventures. More profound than education, the interests your family takes in your child's activities aside from education will determine the family unit value. If every child feels appreciated, acknowledged and promoted within the family unit, they are more likely to promote and encourage other members of the family.

Participation -

Be an involved parent. When your child feels the active and involved support of a parent in their lives, they're more confident and willing to take risks required to achieve success. Be a participant, not just a by-stander in your child's life. Get involved in school activities, in sporting events, in library visits, in youth groups and Bible school, as well as any projects your child is involved in doing. Don't obsess about the event or the activity, just get involved and participate.

Action -

When your child needs you, take action. Don't leave parenting to the other parent, the educational professionals or other persons who may or may not be ready to take the responsibility, be there. Get involved and take action yourself. Embrace the challenge of parenting by accepting responsibility for the child you helped create.

As a single parent, whether you have custody or visitation, or nothing at all, you're still responsible for the life of a child. If you're not actively taking a role in that child's life, that is a problem you'll have to deal with on your own, but the responsibility for the child, financial and well being is not necessarily up to you. The courts may have a big voice in how well you provide for your child, if you don't choose to step up and take that responsibility. Make a difference willingly and be the parent that is necessary to raise a child to adulthood with a grounded sense of direction and family.

Be a positive influence on your child by being a responsible parent.

The kind of parent you choose to be can make a huge difference in the life of your child. Be the parent you want your child to have.
