Learning music in our schools is important because it develops

Educating the parents of our children in the value of music education is equally important to the other educating we do in the the classroom. The value of music education is being questioned like never before.

Once considered dispensable, music education is back on the agenda at school board meetings in many communities. But, getting a music education is an option available to all. If you're looking for a way to provide your child with a source of life-long joy, satisfaction, and accomplishment, childhood music education is an excellent first step.

Learning

Learning music in our schools is important because it develops skills needed by the 21st century workforce such as critical thinking, creative problem solving, effective communication and team work, keeps students engaged in school and makes them more likely to graduate, and helps students achieve in other academic subjects such as math, science and reading.

Whether it is band, orchestra, or students on their own learning the guitar or other instruments, it's a wonderful way to not only enjoy life but to enhance their skills. Learning to play an instrument may also keep children out of trouble by giving them something to do after school. Learning about the value of notes, time signatures, and exits and entrances will help them to be a member of a team. No other single instrument matches the piano for its broad application of musical concepts.

The House passed a concurrent resolution stating that music instruction "is an important component of a well-rounded academic curriculum and should be available to every student in every school. National Association for Music Education, has seventy thousand music educators working for the education of America's children; The Music Educators National Conference, and International Society for Music Education promotes music and argues for the inclusion of music as part of the early childhood curriculum; includes benefits of early music instruction and curriculum recommendations.
