To earn a PMP certification, you must have enough knowledge and experience that you need to become a project manager. There are some standards set by the PMI project management institute that provide minimum requirements to get PMP certified. The requirements also depends on the education of the person:

If you have an undergraduate degree or higher level of education, you must have 3+ years of project experience (4,500 hours)
If you have a high school diploma or lower level of education, you must have 5+ years of project experience (7,500 hours).
This necessarily doesn't mean that you must have completed projects before getting PMP certified. You have to work in an industry for 3 or 5 years to be eligible for PMP certification.
Besides, you have to take project management classes from any known institute for at least 35 hours to get the certificate.

4. PMP exam, requirements and PMP Cost

You must be wondering what the PMP exam is like. What does it include? How much does a PMP exam cost? Well, it costs over $400 for PMI members to get this certification and for non-PMI members it is over $500.

To get this certification you have to pass the PMP exam first. The exam is hard for those who do not prepare very well. The test judges your understandings and your problem-solving skills in real life and the success rate of the exam is 50-60%. You can't just open the PMI book to answer all the questions in the exam.
