A Guide To The Kindergarten Fees In Malaysia

A Kindergarten is an educational establishment where young children are sent to begin their journey of schooling.  The word kindergarten is derived from the German language; ‘Kinder’ means ‘Children’ and ’Garten’ means ‘Garden’. Friedrich Froebel – founder of the first kindergarten coined the term because he thought that “Children are like tiny flowers; they are varied and need care, but each is beautiful alone and glorious when seen in the community of peers.”

It is a place where little children of the ages of 4 to 6 have the freedom to learn and frolic in an atmosphere of safety and gaiety. This is where the children start to gain an understanding of basic skills like communication, learning how to express themselves emotionally, growing physically and mentally, as well as things like reading, writing, creating new friendships, etc. All of which are things that are going to come in handy as they grow up and in their journey of further education. The Kindergarten approach to pedagogy is numerous activity-based tasks. The students are engaged in fun things like games, arts and crafts, music, and much more.

What exactly are the fees?

Now, coming to ‘fees’ or ‘remittance’ it is simply the word used to refer to the sum of money that is paid for a certain good or service. In this particular case, it is to denote the amount of cash that is paid to an educational institute; the kindergarten, for the services that they provide to the children who attend there. The parents pay this money to the school in return for their service and to improve the standard of education. The fees are then utilized by the school for needs as they see fit, for e.g. to upgrade their facilities, towards the upkeep of the school, etc.

Fees in Malaysia

When it comes to kindergarten fees in Malaysia, much like kindergartens and other schools around the world the fee amount is paid on a monthly basis or at the start of each term. Sometimes independently set up kindergartens make up their own fee structure. Certain pre-schools in Malaysia offer free schooling but other private and public establishments have a mandatory fee that is not reimbursable. The fees must be paid on or before the given deadline or the child will not be allowed to attend school anymore.  The fees are generally paid via an invoice or by an online payment procedure. The general fees that are required to be paid are the Application fees which are one time and non – refundable, the Enrolment fees which are one time and non-refundable, a Security Deposit which in one time and refundable, Tuition fees which is a recurring fee that is to pay every term and an activity fee which is also a recurring fee meant to be paid each term. Now, these fees may vary from one KL international school to another and will have to be paid accordingly.

Educational aid is also something that is offered to preschoolers in Malaysia. The Financial Assistance for Persons with Disabilities (OKU), School Assistance for Preschools, School Assistance Scheme, and Assistance from the Zakat Board to name a few.
