Red Dead Redemption 2 Player Saved By Unlikely Ally

The world of Red Dead Redemption 2 can be an incredibly dangerous place. There are plenty of gunslingers roaming the prairies who would love nothing more than to take down Arthur and his gang. Then there's the not so small matter of Red Dead's many wild animals that can quickly make life difficult for players if they are caught unprepared. Sometimes, however, these environmental hazards can actually cancel each other out; as one player recently discovered.

Similar to the wanted system in the Grand Theft Auto series, Red Dead Redemption 2 features a bounty system that's designed to punish players who are caught breaking the law. It's possible to kill or bribe witnesses before any crimes are reported, but failing to do so will lead to a bounty being placed on the player's head and a team of bounty hunters coming after them to claim it. These hunters can be incredibly relentless, especially if the player racks up a high enough bounty. As it turns out though, they are just as vulnerable to the game's deadly wildlife as players.

While recently playing Red Dead Redemption 2, Reddit user remmon22 found themselves being pursued by a large pack of bounty hunters and so decided to seek refuge in an abandoned cabin. With the situation already looking bleak, things seemed to have gone from bad to worse when a wild cougar turned up and decided to attack the redditor as well. After its initial attempt at doing so, however, it suddenly turned its attention to the bounty hunters instead. With the wild animal's help, remmon22 was able to pick his pursuers off one by one and escape from the situation relatively unscathed. Sadly, the cougar was not so lucky.

Although animals attacking non-player characters in Red Dead Redemption 2 is not completely unheard of, it's a little unusual for wildlife to target NPCs rather than the player; especially after they have already locked on. Several commenters pointed this out and suggested that the cougar's decision to change targets may have been caused by the player being knocked on to a table after the cougar's initial attack. If so, this would suggest that animals in Red Dead may not be programmed to jump or climb onto elevated platforms.

This isn't the only interesting animal-related incident to have made the front page of the Red Dead Reddit lately either. In recent weeks, one player discovered that reviving a horse in Red Dead Redemption 2 can have some pretty unusual side effects, while another found that chasing the legendary moose for long enough will eventually lead to it dropping dead from exhaustion. Given the attention to detail that's on display in the game, it wouldn't be too surprising if more discoveries like these continue to be made.

A remake or remaster of the original Red Dead Redemption has been through the rumor mill time and again, but various leaks in recent months have suggested that fan wishes could finally be granted in the not-too-distant future. The same leak suggested that Grand Theft Auto 6 has an aimed release window in 2023, and would release after a Red Dead remaster.

While that particular leak is far from confirmed, there are reasons that a Red Dead Redemption remake or remaster should come before Grand Theft Auto 6. Based on the development of Red Dead 2 and developer comments about a future GTA game, there's a strong case to be made to return to the West before diving back into the city life.
