Five months into the life of PlayStation 5, despite recent controversies from Sony such as the upcoming closure of the PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita, the shut down of Japan Studio, and Days Gone 2 being turned down, the future of the brand is looking bright for fans.
Month after month of exceptional PS Plus games, ten free games currently available to all PS4 and PS5 owners, and major exclusives on the horizon including Returnal and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. With so much to look forward to, here's hope Sony can make a few more dreams come true with the complete PS Plus free games wish list for May 2021.
Since the launch of PlayStation 5, Sony has given owners of the new platform an additional exclusive game as part of the monthly PS Plus offering. While some months have been utilized in the launch of brand new games like Bugsnax and Maquette, in other months Sony has given away upgraded versions of last-generation games including Maneater, Worms Rumble, and Control. One game that didn't get the level of attention it deserved when it launched and could absolutely benefit from both a PS5 upgrade and an influx of new players from a month on PS Plus is IllFonic's Predator: Hunting Grounds.
Released in April 2020 as a PS4 console exclusive, Predator: Hunting Grounds is an asymmetrical multiplayer game where four players team up as soldiers and must complete tasks and evacuate the map while a fifth player hunts them down as the Predator. In the year since the game launched, Predator: Hunting Grounds has received ongoing support from Friday the 13th: The Game developer IllFonic including new Predator classes, new maps, Private Match support, and the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch from the original film. Even without the PS5 upgrade, Predator: Hunting Ground deserves another day in the spotlight and PS Plus is a great way to bring in some new players.
Potentially to the surprise of many, despite being on almost every platform that's been available since the game released in 2011, Skyrim has never been released on PS Plus, and that also goes for the PS4 remastered special edition. It could be, and very likely is, an impossibility at this stage given that Microsoft has purchased Zenimax and Bethesda and therefore owns the rights to The Elder Scrolls franchise. Yet in 2021, anything can happen, and it could be a great piece offering following the MLB The Show 21' Game Pass situation.
Released on PS4, PS5, PC, and iOS, The Pathless is a third-person action-adventure game that puts the focus on exploration and movement. Players take on the role of a master archer known as the Hunter and must tie together shots at talismans throughout the world to gain momentum and traverse the open world. In Game Rant's review of The Pathless, we said: "While it's not without its flaws, The Pathless is still more fun than it is not, with impressive visuals, fun boss fights, relaxing puzzles, and an interesting movement system."
