Pokémon GO is collaborating with several partners around the world, including Verizon in the US, 7-Eleven in Mexico, and Yoshinoya in Japan, for a Special Weekend event near the end of the month. Pokémon GO has quite a number of events happening this month, including the May Community Day on the 15th. The event will spotlight a specific Pokémon every hour, increasing the chance the species will appear in the wild during the time slot. The event will also host weekly spotlights, one day for each week of May, to highlight even more Pokémon.
The month of May has also brought with it two new Legendary Pokémon from the Kalos region. During the Luminous Legends X event, which runs from May 4-17, 2021, players will be able to encounter the Legendary Fairy-type Pokémon Xerneas. While the Dark-type Legendary Yvetal will be available during the Luminous Legends Y event from May 18 to June 1, 2021. Additionally, Sylveon is set to also be introduced into the game during the second half of the Luminous Legend Y event.
In a new blog post, Pokémon GO developer Niantic announced the details of the Special Weekend event, which will be held from May 29 to May 30, 2021. To participate, players will need to obtain a physical or digital event ticket from any of the participating partners, including Verizon in the US, 7-Eleven in Mexico, and Yoshinoya in Japan. Players can then redeem the code in the ticket to gain access to the Special Weekend event and receive a participation medal as well as unlock several limited-time features.
The limited-time features include the ability to attract several Pokémon using Incense, including Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Eevee, Marill, Sableye, Stunky, Spritzee, Swirlix, and even a Shiny Eevee. Different Unown will be attracted to Incense depending on the participating partner in the player’s region so those with Verizon can get an Unown V, 7-Eleven Mexico will have Unown S, and Yoshinoya will feature Unown Y.
Other limited-time features during the Special Weekend event will include event-exclusive Timed Research that will reward XP, items, and encounters with specific Pokémon. There will also be an increased chance to receive Lucky Pokémon or become a Lucky Friend when trading or interacting with a friend. Players outside of participating regions will also be granted bonuses during the event, including double daily gift opening and an increased trade range of 40km.
There definitely isn’t a shortage of events for Pokémon GO players to experience and enjoy this month. Hopefully, with so many events underway, developer Niantic won’t run into any more hiccups like they did last week when Marill's Limited Research Event was erroneously released a few days earlier than intended.
