Pokemon GO: Everything We Know About Luminous X/Y Event Research

The final weeks of the Pokemon GO Season of Legends are approaching and many fans are starting to speculate about how Niantic will wrap up the activities and lead into whatever comes next. The game's first season ended with a fairly big Kanto Tour Celebration Event and, thanks to a new datamine, some players are starting to speculate that the Season of Legends might end with an exciting Gen 6-themed event.

Although nothing has been officially announced yet, the last Pokemon GO datamine laid the groundwork for two separate Pokemon X/Y event research chains. This is a very exciting development for fans of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y and seems to suggest that Xerneas and Yveltal could be on their way to the game in the very near future.

Another important factor that the current code doesn't shine any light on is whether or not these research chains will be gated behind a ticketed event or available to everyone. Trainers are going to have to wait and see on that front, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Niantic start ending each season with a big ticketed event blow out.

As always, please keep in mind that datamined information is subject to change and none of these details have been confirmed or officially announced yet. And beyond that, the code leaves a lot of room for guesswork, so any suggestions about how these new Legendary Pokemon may roll out is purely speculation for now.

To start, here's a look at the most relevant code from the latest datamine:

    RESOURCE ID: luminous_x_event_name

    TEXT: Luminous Legends X

    RESOURCE ID: quest_title_luminous_x_0

    TEXT: Luminous Legends X (1/7)

    RESOURCE ID: luminous_y_event_name

    TEXT: Luminous Legends Y

    RESOURCE ID: quest_title_luminous_y_0

    TEXT: Luminous Legends Y (1/7)

What's most interesting here is that there are two distinct and separate question chains, one labeled as luminous_x_event_name and one labeled as luminous_y_event_name. That seems to indicate that there will be two separate seven step research chains for players to work through to possibly earn encounters with Xerneas and Yveltal. What remains a bigger mystery now is whether players will have the opportunity to complete both chains or if they'll have to select only one when the time comes.

Fans likely remember that the recent Kanto-themed event charged players who paid for access with selecting one of two versions for their experience and this choice impacted select spawns. Could a similar event be on the way that forces players to select between Pokemon X and Pokemon Y to unlock one of the two event research chains?

Another important factor that the current code doesn't shine any light on is whether or not these research chains will be gated behind a ticketed event or available to everyone. Trainers are going to have to wait and see on that front, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Niantic start ending each season with a big ticketed event blow out.

Over the next few weeks or so players should begin to learn a lot more about what other events are on the way throughout the final weeks of the the Season of Legends. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
