Lost Judgment Announced With Release Date

Over the last week, SEGA has been teasing a follow-up to its widely revered Yakuza spin-off Judgment, posting a countdown to a cryptic event known as "Judgment Day." While the official title and release date of the sequel were leaked via the PlayStation Store yesterday, the publisher has now made the game official, announcing Lost Judgment with an action-packed trailer, new gameplay, and a confirmed release date.
As for combat, it'll stay mostly the same, with producer Kazuki Hosokawa claiming it'll be "powered up" for the sequel. Both the Crane and Tiger styles will return, offering agile crowd control and hard-hitting power respectively. However, a third style will be added, with Hosokawa revealing the Snake. It appears to be a counter-heavy style of play, which allows the user to turn an enemy's attacks against them. Alongside combat, exploration is getting some upgrades too, with Yagami able to scale buildings, run across walls, and use pipes to launch himself over large gaps.

Other announcements include the addition of a new city known as Yokohama, which will be home to an intricately detailed high school that will play a significant part in the game's story. There's also the addition of a skateboard that players can use to traverse cities, speeding up exploration. Unsurprisingly, there will be plenty of mini-games too, including school activities such as boxing and dancing as well as a remote-controlled robot battling game.

The sequel will release globally on September 24 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, and will come complete with dual audio options, so players can pick the original Japanese dialogue or an English dub. As for the story, it picks up the tale of detective Takayuki Yagami, who will investigate a creepy new case involving grisly murders, masked killers, and plenty of intense action.
Lost Judgment's announcement trailer holds a lot of detail for fans wanting to know more about the game's main narrative, revealing that it centers around a series of vengeful murders enacted on the streets of Japan. According to voice actor Takuya Kimura, Yagami will allegedly become embroiled in the case after "a guilty verdict [is] handed down in court." It seems the battle to solve the mystery will be filled with twists and turns, as Yagami gets reeled further into the case following a personal tragedy of his own.

While players wait to get their hands on Lost Judgment, its predecessor recently got a remastered port and is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Stadia. The new version of Judgment bumps up the game's graphics and offers a higher frame rate, making it the definitive way to experience Ryu ga Gotoku Studio's recent sleuth-focused spin-off.
