How to Fix Destiny 2 PC Crashes in Season of the Splicer

After months of teases and slowly revealed news, Destiny 2 fans finally got the information they wanted last week when Season of the Splicer was fully unveiled. Featuring a neon retrowave visual style, players are teaming up with Mithrax and his House of Light in order to combat a new Vex threat which has plunged the Last City into eternal night. With new gear to chase and activities to check out like Override, a 6 person matchmade mode, excitement among the fanbase was high.

Unfortunately, that excitement came crashing down on launch day this week. Following the maintenance period and update, players were greeted with all sorts of launch issues and error codes. The most high profile of these was one labeled Honeydew which indicated server-side problems typically preventing players from loading in to activities. Connection and stability issues continues to plague the online experience as Bungie worked to resolve them and those impacted.

However, some Destiny 2 fans on PC discovered an unusual method to solve crashing to desktop issues. In a new video from Destiny 2 content creator Sweatcicle, detailed his frustrations with attempting to play the new season. After 9 hours of issues, the one thing that instantly solved his troubles was by going into Steam and deleting players from his friends list. The magic number seems to be 40 as once he went below that number, the game ran as intended.

As strange as this fix sounds, it has been working for many other players as well and has even been broadcast on official channels including Senior Community Manager Dylan Gafner. Other high profile members of the community like Gladd and Rick Kackis have also spoken up and confirmed this method works in fixing the Splicer related launch issues with the former indicating they removed everyone, while Kackis had to drop his number to 35 in order for it to work correctly.

Since the midday launch of the season, Bungie has continued to work on resolving the various server and connection issues, though many of them appear to be now resolved at this point. It's an unfortunate way to kick off a new season, especially following one that was so well received and went relatively smoothly. Many fans in the community believe that this won't be the last time this happens, especially as the game continues to move ever closer to the highly anticipated Witch Queen expansion and a continued uptick in interest.

Destiny 2 has had its fair share of in-game errors and bugs that can hinder players' experiences. While some of these bugs affect different activities in Destiny 2, such as the weekly Trials of Osiris, other errors can affect large numbers of Guardians.

With every new seasonal launch or major expansion in Destiny, Guardians expect a certain level of resistance when trying to log in for the new content. From the "Tapir" errors of days past to the "Honeydew" errors of today, Guardians know that launch day is always a rough experience, and Season of the Splicer is no exception.
