Cyberpunk 2077 Code Allegedly Up For Auction After CD Projekt Red Hack

Following the CD Projekt Red hack earlier this week, those responsible have taken the source code to the developer's games--like Cyberpunk 2077, Gwent, and The Witcher 3--to an online auction site, allegedly starting a bid for $1 million and selling the entire kit for $7 million.

According to the well-known data security firm vx-underground, the hackers posted the source code to the Exploits forum, an internet forum populated by other hackers. Vx-underground said the hackers started a bid at $1 million for the code to Cyberpunk 2077, the free-to-play card-based game Gwent, and an unreleased version of The Witcher 3. The hackers are supposedly selling the code immediately to anyone willing to shell out $7 million.

Update: a mistake was made. They stated starting bid $1kk. This was assumed as a typo for $1,000. They meant $1,000,000. They are also selling immediately for $7,000,000.

Many of the files have found their way to other spaces on the internet, like 4Chan and Mega, but have since been taken down by moderators to ensure they don't end up in more hands.

This comes as CD Projekt Red refused to comply with the hackers' demands, who gave the studio 48 hours to "come to an agreement" or else the company's "source codes will be sold or leaked." The developer noted that an "unidentified actor" gained access to the company's servers and said that, to its knowledge, no personal data had been compromised as of yet. Still, other pieces of highly sensitive information--such as the developer's own properties, information, and data--have reportedly been accessing by the hackers. CD Projekt Red is working with the law to get to the bottom of the attack and bring those responsible to justice.
