Crytek Teases Fans About Possible Crysis 2 Remaster

Now that Crysis Remastered has officially been released, it appears Crytek is working on a remaster of the sequel. While there hasn't be an official announcement, it appears the company is teasing the impending arrival of Crysis 2 Remastered.

Development for the re-release of the original Crysis hit more than a few snags. The game was delayed a few times and then when it finally did hit consoles and PC, there were some complaints about its look and how it ran. Crytek has spent the last several months ironing out the bugs. If the latest hint on social media is any indication, it appears the company is ready to move onto the next game in the trilogy.

On Thursday, the company sent out two cryptic tweets that seem to be prepping for an announcement. The first was "they used to call me prophet." The second tweet was just the eyes emoji that usually hints there's something worth seeing when used in a Twitter reply. For those not familiar with the series, that first tweet is the opening line in Crysis 2.

The idea that a Crysis 2 Remastered is coming isn't really all that surprising. Late last fall, a document leak hinted that Crytek was working on exactly that. However, those documents also showed that the company was kicking around entirely new games in the series as well. Among the ideas that were being talked about internally was a potential Crysis-based battle royale title. Then, this spring, actual footage of that game also leaked online. Crytek never really addressed any of the rumors that sprung from that leak.

The timing of the tease does seem to hint that some sort of announcement is on the horizon. Crytek just finished up and released PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrades for Crysis Remastered last month. The company has also been working on various tweaks for its PC version, including adding DLSS support. While the company hasn't said for certain, it appears any major revamps for the original remaster have been taken care of and it can now direct its attention to its next project.

While the reception to Crysis Remastered was mixed, fan reaction to Crytek's tease was mostly positive. One fan said that the world "needed" another next-gen Crysis game. Whether or not a Crysis 2 Remastered is indeed what Crytek was teasing with those tweets isn't yet known. The company hasn't gone out of its way to shed any light on just what it meant since the original posts.

The original Crysis released back in 2007 and quickly became the talk of many gamers and tech enthusiasts. Crysis featured a very complex game engine at the time, and running the game at full settings was practically impossible for even the best PCs available. In 2020 developer Crytek released Crysis Remastered, and though it isn't nearly as demanding as its predecessor, Crysis Remastered has ray-tracing capabilities and has a dedicated 8K mode. But footage of another Crysis game in development has possibly leaked online, and that game is rumored to be a Crysis battle royale.
