Capcom Arcade Stadium Gets Multi-Platform Release Date

Capcom Arcade Stadium will supposedly be the bridge that keeps older Capcom arcade games available on modern platforms, but while it made its way to the Nintendo Switch earlier in the year, its release date on other platforms has been unknown. With a listing appearing on the Microsoft Store, Capcom Arcade Stadium's wider release plans are now known.

According to the Microsoft Store, the release of the Capcom Arcade Stadium will happen May 25, 2021 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. According to Gematsu, it will also be on the PC and the PS4. The Microsoft release will include Capcom's 1943: The Battle of Midway as a free title.

When announced, the Capcom Arcade Stadium was viewed as another way to play classic Capcom arcade games that are no longer easily attainable. The platform attempts to recreate the look and feel of older devices with scanline filter and customizable displays. Games expected for the Capcom Arcade Stadium include the aforementioned 1943: The Battle of Midway, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Final Fight, and many others.

Capcom is known for many of its arcade classics, and the Capcom Arcade Stadium is one attempt to bring these to home consoles. While many of the games mentioned have made their way onto consoles in the past, Capcom will look to build off of the platform to provide an authentic arcade feel.

While the other previous-gen systems await the release, the Capcom Arcade Stadium has been on the Nintendo Switch since February 17. It currently has over 31 games available for purchase, marking a plethora of older titles available to a newer audience. All games for the Capcom Arcade Stadium were originally released before the year 2002.

Gaming's biggest show of the year, E3, is returning this year with an all-digital event. The ESA recently confirmed the dates for E3 2021 alongside the list of companies that will be partaking in it. As expected, Sony will be missing out on E3 yet again, though other major companies like Microsoft, Nintendo, Square Enix, Take-Two, Ubisoft, Capcom, and more will be present.

Capcom seems to be having an amazing year with Monster Hunter Rise having enormous sales figures in its first week. Capcom's next two big releases for 2021 are Resident Evil Village and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, both of which launch May 7, and July 9, respectively. Although Capcom hasn't revealed what it has in stores for this holiday season and beyond, a recent Capcom leak did give a glimpse of titles fans could expect in the coming months and years, some of which could be announced at E3 2021.

Resident Evil Village would have released by the time E3 2021 rolls out. Given how Resident Evil 7 received plenty of post-launch story DLCs, it wouldn't be surprising if Resident Evil Village follows a similar route. Capcom could also announce a Resident Evil Village Gold Edition for 2022 that would contain the base game as well as the future DLCs.

Capcom's plan to make Resident Evil an annual franchise was seemingly confirmed with the recent leak that listed four Resident Evil games currently in development. After Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil Outbreak seems to be the next entry that is apparently targeting a Q4 2021 release. Interestingly, Resident Evil Outbreak is Resident Evil Revelations 3, according to notable leaker Dusk Golem. Furthermore, this Resident Evil Outbreak seems to be Nintendo Switch-timed exclusive title. E3 2021 seems like a perfect fit to reveal the title with a gameplay presentation.
