It may no longer be the year of Luigi, but Mario's brother appears to be getting his own LEGO set. According to a recent Amazon China listing, a Super Mario LEGO Luigi set is scheduled to launch in the near future.

The LEGO Super Mario set is one of the company's most successful themed sets of all time. And because of that, both LEGO and Nintendo have talked about teaming up for more blended physical and digital LEGO sets of its kind. The most logical next step would be more characters within the Super Mario universe, and Luigi looks to be next in line according to a recent listing.

The Luigi LEGO starter course has appeared on the Amazon China site with a launch date of July 9, 2021. The set comes with a Luigi figure that can interact digitally, just like the Super Mario LEGO set before it. Luigi has the ability to collect coins, take down enemies, and more. The images are a reminder that a part of the joy is building the course--which is classic LEGO fun--and the twist comes with the digital interaction.

Even before the Amazon China listing, an update to the Super Mario LEGO set had Mario calling out for Luigi, a hint that his brother was indeed on the way. The Easter egg, along with this Amazon listing, appears to have for the most part confirmed the Luigi LEGO set, as this is about as close to legitimate as it gets. The 100% confirmation will come from Nintendo or LEGO, of course, so fans should be on the lookout for more concrete information soon.

As one of the most prolific toy companies in the world, LEGO has expanded its brick building empire in partnership with several popular media properties from Disney to Star Wars to Harry Potter and more. With licensing partnerships, LEGO can occasionally dip into the gaming scene as well for inspiration. LEGO has partnered with Sega to create a Sonic Mania set, and the company has developed multiple sets around Minecraft.

After decades of successful video game properties, Nintendo has finally decided to seek a partnership with the toy brick company. With a LEGO version of the NES, and multiple sets inspired by Super Mario, Nintendo and LEGO fans were able to come together in 2020. Now that the LEGO Super Mario sets have become one of LEGO's most successful launches, Nintendo should be able to see that there is a huge audience for official Nintendo LEGO products. Looking to the future, there are multiple Nintendo IPs that the company should have turned into LEGO sets next.

It's no surprise that a Legend of Zelda LEGO product line is at the top of the list, as fans have been hoping for it for years. With the Zelda series celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2021, this would be a perfect time for Nintendo to finally make fans' dreams a reality. LEGO sets can often range in size, as there are smaller affordable sets, all the way up to huge, thousand-plus piece products. The Legend of Zelda would be a great addition that could have both small and premium LEGO creations.
