Cyberpunk 2077 Mod Adds Iconic Watch Dogs Feature
Cyberpunk 2077 has steadily been building a library of mods since its release, with a wide variety of options for players to choose from already. A new mod just released, however, and adds an incredible feature from Watch Dogs that fits neatly into Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk 2077 has multiple mechanics built around hacking enemies and different objects in the environment like cameras and vending machines, but the Watch Dogs series is all about hacking. The games let you hack an incredible amount of objects around the world, and follows a group of hackers as they fight back against an over-reaching government. One of the subtler and more immersive features of Watch Dogs's hacking, however, is the ability to scan any NPC in the world and learn about them. Now, players can install a mod to have a similar ability in Cyberpunk 2077.
The Kiroshi Opticals Crowd Scanner mod is created by community modders Alien and BadAssGodFather, and is a pretty ingenious use of Cyberpunk 2077's base code. The mod adds a feature to player character V's scanner that allows him to scan NPCs on the street and learn about their childhood, background, and significant events in their life. All of the information is generated procedurally, but it isn't completely random.
When the mod generates a backstory for an NPC it uses the character's appearance to personalize the generated backstory so that it is consistent with their appearance. This means that NPCs fitted out in a nice corpo suit will have an affluent background while characters in shabbier clothing will have a lot more life events that had negative events. While not having a huge influence on Cyberpunk 2077's gameplay, the mod does add depth to the game world that will do a lot to make the city feel even more alive than it already does.
The mod is available for free over on NexusMods, and is open to being translated to languages other than English. All it takes is a simple edit of the text.reds file within the mod, and there are helpful instructions as well as information on how to translate it using gender-neutral and gendered languages on the mod's page. The mod is one of many that aim to help flesh out the aspects of Cyberpunk 2077 that many fans felt disappointed by, and there is a big range of options out there that help make jumping back into Night City a lot more appealing.
It appears that CD Projekt Red is following through with its intentions to be more thorough about forthcoming features for Cyberpunk 2077. The developer stepped forward days after a massive leak revealed three DLC content packs scheduled for 2021. Surprisingly, according to a representative for CD Projekt Red, the names of the upcoming content packs were confirmed to not be DLCs for Cyberpunk 2077.
The leaks popped up on the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit in the form of images of a now inaccessible Add-on page for Cyberpunk 2077 on the Epic Games Store. Appearing after patch 1.2, the screenshot contained a series of blank listings that alluded to content speculated to have been cut from the game. For months now, players were under the assumption that CD Projekt Red would release the cut content in the form of DLC, although apparently, that may have never been the case.
