Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre has received backlash after making comments doubting the verdict of the George Floyd case.

Former policeman Derek Chauvin was charged with second- and third-degree murder by a jury after kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes in May 2020.

"I find it hard to believe, and I'm not defending Derek Chauvin in any way, I find it hard to believe, first of all, that he intentionally meant to kill George Floyd," Favre on his 'Bolling with Favre' podcast.

"That being said, his actions were uncalled for. I don't care what colour the person is on the street.

"I don't know what led to that video that we saw where his knee is on his neck, but the man had thrown in the towel."

"Brett Favre was the same dude who said he wants to keep politics out of sports... except when it comes to defending a white cop who murdered an unarmed Black man," tweeted the Daily Beast's Wajahat Ali in response.

As we're approaching the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony, we can't wait for the memorable outfits and speeches that come with the event.

Over the years celebrities and actors have taken to the stage, not only to thank their loved ones but to raise awareness about race, gender, the environment and many more issues that affect people around the world.

The Best Oscars Speeches of all time
They have used this immense platform to narrate their personal experiences and articulate what events made the difference for them with regards to the respective topics.

Let's take a look at some of the most memorable Oscars speeches of all time and some of our favourites.

Leonardo DiCaprio | The Revenant | 2015
The long-awaited Oscars award for Leonardo DiCaprio was the product of "tireless efforts" and an "unbelievable cast" according to DiCaprio. He took the opportunity to thank his fellow actor Tom Hardy by breaking into a heartfelt bromance declaration and went on the use his role in The Revenant to draw a comparison of man and nature.
"I just want to say this. Making "The Revenant" was about man's relationship to the natural world, a world that we collectively felt in 2015 as the hottest year in recorded history. Our production needed to move to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow. Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.

"We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters or the big corporations, but who speak for all of humanity. For the indigenous people of the world. For the billions and billions of underprivileged people who will be most affected by this. For our children's children. And for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed. I thank you all for this amazing award tonight. Let us not take this planet for granted."
Halle Berry | Monster's Ball | 2002
The Monster's Ball protagonist delivered an emotional and powerful speech as the first black woman to ever win the best actress. She took the stage to acknowledge this fact and delivered her speech full of gasps and emotions recognizing the gravity of the historic moment she was in.
"This moment is so much bigger than me," she said. "This moment is for Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Diahann Carroll. It's for the women that stand beside me: Jada Pinkett, Angela Bassett, Vivica Fox. And it's for every nameless, faceless woman of colour that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened.
Joaquin Phoenix | Joker | 2020
This particular Oscars win hit an emotional spot for many people as the movie 'The Joker' evoked such strong emotions of injustice and anger in viewers as they couldn't figure out whether the protagonist deserved our sympathy or wrath. He dedicated his win to "use our voice for the voiceless," and went on to address the "distressing issues that we are facing collectively"
