An x-ray technician is a health care worker with special skills in the area of working on x-ray equipments to take pictures of the body to visualize the area that has a disease and injury for further diagnosis. Most of the x-ray technicians train for one to two years before working on different health care institutions like hospitals, clinics, offices and a lot more. These professionals work in long hours with a total of 40 hours a week for a full-time work. The field of radiology technician somehow has a little risk on it since these professionals are more exposed to frequent x-rays. In becoming a certified technician, one must have a radiology technician education. First, a person needs to undergo training from a rad tech school. Career for this kind of profession has three choices- one year certification, two year associate degree and four year bachelor degree. Usually, experienced radiology technicians or those planning to shift from one medical field to this field take the one year certification. It is important to hone the skills that a person needs to be a good radiology technician. Skills are needed since these professionals operate machines. They should also have a good communication skill to deal with patients effectively. After one has completed the training, a person must take and pass the State exam. Once passed, it is important to maintain the certification by attending continuing education every two years. Most state requires radiology technicians to have a license. Some also chooses to specialize in certain areas. Specialization includes mammography, MRI and a lot more.
