Passing the Veterinary Technician National Exam - Whats Next?

The National Veterinary Technician Examination (NVTE) is the state licensing examination. The purpose of this exam is to evaluate the competency level of the candidates to ensure that they have sufficient knowledge and skills to perform the necessary clinical tasks in a veterinary clinic or hospital. This particular exam is regulated by the State Board of Veterinary Examiners. Different states may have different titles for this profession. In general, there are few common titles for this profession, such as Registered Veterinary Technician, Certified Veterinary Technician or Licensed Veterinary Technician.

After obtaining the license, what should a vet tech do then?

It enables them to familiarize themselves to all the laboratory and medical equipments. If you consider this profession as a life long career, you should have a long term view. You are advised to consider a specialization for the purpose of career advancement. You can choose to specialize in any of the current fields as follow: animal behavior, dentistry, internal medicine, critical care, anesthesia and so forth. On the other hand, if you aim to work in a research facility, you are advised to sit for Laboratory Animal Science Exam and obtain another unique certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.
