Director Zack Snyder reveals that he's indeed a fan of both Marvel comics and their movies; he also shares that Hulk, as well as, Iron Man are his favorite characters from the brand. Tapped to launch Warner Bros' own interconnected franchise, the filmmaker had been occupied setting up the DCEU for the most part of the last decade. While his stint ended abruptly, Snyder is mostly associated with DC, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't like Marvel.

The rivalry between comic book brands started decades ago when their stories exclusively panned out on print. As those narratives are reinvented in films and TV shows, superheroes slowly became popular in mainstream media with various franchises currently thriving. Still, as the two biggest players in the game, DC and Marvel, and by way, DCEU and MCU have been pitted against each other. But time and again, people actually involved in these projects prove that there's no bad blood between them, and it's totally okay to like both properties.

Snyder is the latest to prove this to be true. When asked by Wired (via u/Task_Force-191) as he makes the press rounds to promote his new project, Netflix's Army of the Dead, if he likes Marvel, the Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice director revealed that he both likes their comics and movies. He additionally names Hulk and Iron Man as his favorite heroes from the brand. Check out the interview excerpt below:

While Snyder likes Marvel movies, that doesn't mean that he was inclined to copy Kevin Feige's storytelling formula with his franchise. In a previous interview, he revealed that essentially, he's not exactly fit for MCU's "popular action-comedy with a heart" and also acknowledged that trying to replicate that format is doomed to fail since they're doing it very well. Instead, he followed his filmmaking instincts and did his own thing with the DCEU, for better or for worse. However, he has also revealed in the past that if given the chance, he would join Marvel if that means that he can direct an Elektra film.

Given Iron Man's death in Avengers: Endgame, there's a very slim chance that Snyder will be able to handle the character on the big screen. The MCU would expectedly be very careful with how they treat Tony Stark's legacy moving forward, since he's been the franchise's poster character. There are better odds for Snyder to potentially direct a Hulk project since the character is still in the franchise, and frankly, his story hasn't been fully explored yet. However, considering Marvel's stacked slate, if this ever happens, this will be far into the future.

Marvel is revisiting its biggest MCU fakeout twists in the Infinity Saga and paying them off in Phase 4, including one of the most controversial – the Mandarin. The MCU took an inadvertently extended break after the Infinity Stones debacle had been resolved due to the coronavirus pandemic. While kicking off this new era of storytelling was delayed significantly, work never stops for Kevin Feige and his team as there's a string of movies and TV shows already confirmed for the franchise to run until at least 2023.
