Games inspired by classical history are often big hits with fans, especially for Greek and Roman-inspired games like Total War: Rome II, Ryse: Son of Rome, or Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. A new game inspired by Roman history, We Are Legion: Rome, has been announced for multiple platforms with a brand new cinematic trailer.

We Are Legion: Rome is developed by Poland-based indie developer Titanite Games, known for releasing a horror-drama visual novel called Perseverance in 2018. Previously, this game was apparently being developed by Roman Soldiers Studio under the title Roman Legionnaire. The game's publisher, Gaming Factory, seems to have cut ties with the developers to bring Titanite Games onto the project.

This new cinematic trailer has been released to announce We Are Legion: Rome is still in development. The game is a first-person adventure RPG where players take on the role of a Roman legionnaire who rises through the ranks. The events in the game are inspired by the Gallic Wars military campaign lead by Julius Caesar, and players will take part in great battles and sieges.

Another interesting gameplay element will be the ability to send letters to the character's family back home, though it's unclear what this will affect. Players still need to wait to see what gameplay is like, as the trailer didn't reveal any. However, the game says it will be historically accurate, which is often expected by fans of Roman history in these types of games.

Strangely enough, Gaming Factory plans to release about a dozen simulator-type games ranging from an Electrician Simulator and Pizza Simulator to a Sailor Simulator. While this is nothing strange in and of itself, the idea of a publisher trying to make a quick buck by selling these types of games can't be ignored. Unfortunately, the publisher's recent game Gallic Wars: Battle Simulator looks pretty unfinished, which doesn't exactly instill confidence.

On the bright side, these games are being made by different developers, so Titanite Games could pull through and deliver something special. Hopefully, We Are Legion: Rome can be another great game for fans of Roman history, and not just a slapped-together "Roman Soldier Simulator."

The Empire of Tamriel is an ever-present force in every main entry of the series. They possess a robust political system that serves to maintain their grip on the provinces. Backed up by the impressive might of the Imperial Legions the Empire has managed to endure for generations.

Ancient history buffs will no doubt notice the analogies to Rome. Aesthetically, the empires share similarities that are unmistakable. However, the comparisons go even deeper upon further examination: socially, politically, militarily, and religiously. Although not an exhaustive list, these are some of the more prominent entries that should stand out to gamers and historians alike.

Forts are a common site when exploring The Elder Scrolls games. Whether currently inhabited or abandoned, many were built by the Imperial military. Since it's a medieval fantasy setting forts provide a valuable source of defense. They also serve to communicate the Empire's strength and advertise their presence to the populace.

In the Republican period, Roman legionaries constructed fortified camps whenever they were not on the march. As Rome's borders stabilized many of these temporary fortifications became permanent. Like the Tamrielic Empire in the Fourth Era the late Roman Empire used forts to stabilize their gains. The priority had slowly shifted from offense to defense.
