There seems to be no doubt about the popularity and demand for the long-time action-adventure series Tomb Raider. Not only has the video game franchise, and main female protagonist Lara Croft, been made relevant through collaborations with modern titles, fans have also started to port and remake the older games so that they could be played on newer platforms. Recently, a fan has been reworking Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness on Unreal Engine 4, and has shared in-progress videos for the online fanbase to enjoy.

This is not the first time that a fan has ported a Tomb Raider game. A few months back, a player was able to release the Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition online, which was a cancelled title originally meant to be launched on the PlayStation 2. Though fans were able to play the previously unreleased title on their desktops, it is possible they felt that the experience just covers up for the lack of any new Tomb Raider titles in the pipeline.

On YouTube, Julian Guba, or user FreakRaider, shared several clips of the development progress for his remake of Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. The videos showed off the game’s different visual cinematics and camera perspectives while the random model walked through and explored the backstreets of rainy Paris. Though the figure in the video was not outfitted as Lara Croft, the rendering of the backstreets look visually impressive. The lamp post lighting combined with the gloomy weather will likely be enough to have any Tomb Raider fan excited for the final product.
In another video, FreakRaider uses next-gen PlayStation 5 graphics to showcase the different moving things found in his revamped Tomb Raider game. He explains that he has been working hard to ensure that nothing is static in the remake, so that the game will feel as realistic as possible. This includes adding minute details such as fluttering window shutters, rustling leaves, spider webs, and even crows with flapping wings.
Besides the YouTube video clips, FreakRaider shares constant updates about his progress on his Twitter account. Recently posting a menu preview of his Tomb Raider remake, most fans will likely feel intrigued by his pursuit of remastering the 2003 title. Given that players have no new information from the official developers themselves, except for news about a mobile iteration, FreakRaider’s remake of Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness may be the next best thing that fans can wait for when it comes to the Tomb Raider series.
