Rocket League released in 2015 and took the world by storm. The widely popular game is now gearing up for season 3 and to get fans excited Psyonix, the company behind Rocket League have dropped a fresh new trailer.

For the uninitiated, Rocket League is a soccer simulation game where users take control of a car instead of a traditional soccer player. The intention of the game was to combine the thrill of racing with the more structured gameplay that soccer requires. Rocket League has been ported to several consoles and met with critical acclaim.

The new trailer, which dropped today, shows off new content coming this season including the newest car called Tyranno. The trailer also displays that the date for the new content will be April 7 and is expected to last around 3 months in total. Unfortunately, not much else is known about the season, but the description provided by Psyonix for the video boasts over 70 new tiers of “unique rewards.”

Rocket League's showcase for season 3 seems to pale in content compared to other recent announcements. The same can be said for Destiny 2, however, Destiny 2’s road map includes: new weapons and armor, a new story, new areas, and seasonal challenges.

Rocket League has been around for a long time and its fans might be disappointed by the lackluster new offering. While the official name for this season is season 3 due to a shift in naming conventions, it is technically season 18. With the game running for 6 years now, some fans might be questioning if the developers are out of ideas though there will still be plenty of fans likely excited by Tyranno.

With the PS5 on the horizon and a purported overhaul of PS Plus likely accompanying it shortly thereafter, it's pretty clear why PS Plus games have been going so big. The past few months have been some of the best games in the service's history, at least everything after May's PS Plus games. Arguably, though, the biggest has been Fall Guys.

PS Plus made Fall Guys free on launch day, with the game quickly breaking records for PS Plus. It had hoped to follow Rocket League in its prior success, but truth be told, it seems like it completely eclipsed it. There's perhaps a variety of reasons for this: the fact that it was free on launch day for PS4, the fact that it's only on PC and PS4, or the very nature of the game as a unique, battle royale-party game.

PS Plus is popular, there's no doubt about that. And it seems pretty clear that Sony is using this to build hype for its next-gen iteration, but its next-gen iteration needs to take the same risks that it took with Fall Guys and Rocket League.

As a subscription service, PS Plus can sometimes be predictable if in pattern only. The games vary, but most months include a big game and one more niche game. This has varied, again, but it's a method that's mostly worked. It's a method that may continue when the industry slows down, but it's one that needs to task risks.
