Fans know surprisingly little about many of the triple-a games releasing this year, largely due to the tide of delays fueled by the coronavirus pandemic. However, Resident Evil Village stands out as one of the shiniest games of 2021, being one of the first third-party games to really take advantage of the PS5 and Xbox Series X hardware. A demo for the game is available now, and fans are sharing their thoughts.

So far, the game appears to be impressing those that have experienced the hour-long demo, which allows gamers to explore a brief segment in the titular village, as well as taking a stressful stroll through the castle of Lady Dimitrescu, the tall vampire lady that has captured the hearts of fans online. If these early opinions are any indication, Capcom might have something special on its hands.

Over on Twitter, fans have been sharing screenshots of Resident Evil Village along with their opinions on the game. The majority of these reactions seem to be positive, with fans sitting the game's visuals, atmosphere, and sound design as the biggest draws. The demos had a limited rollout on PlayStation consoles initially, which also garnered positive reactions, but the new demos are available to more players, and therefore a bit more reflective of the overall mood.

Capcom took the Resident Evil franchise in a bit of a new direction with Resident Evil 7, returning to the franchise's horror roots, but changing how enemies function and shifting to a first-person perspective. It was a risk, but one that seems to have paid off, as Resident Evil 7 broke franchise sales records. Resident Evil Village will continue that story, though it's even more outlandish than its predecessor.

Luckily for those that haven't gotten the chance to check it out yet, Resident Evil Village's demo has been extended, giving players a week to check out the game and see if it's for them. The game only allows for an hour of total playtime during that window, but the two segments can be cleared pretty easily in that allotted time.

With less than a week until launch, Resident Evil Village fans will be able to pick up the full game in no time. Capcom still has to nail the follow-through, especially now that fans have higher expectations, but it could be the defining horror game of 2021 if it's able to stick the landing. At the very least, it'll be gorgeous while it tries to.

In just a few short days, Capcom is releasing Resident Evil Village, which is the next mainline game in the franchise and will see the return of Chris Redfield and Ethan Winters. It is yet to be seen how Resident Evil Village will fare against its predecessors, but it appears that the game is on the right track given the growing anticipation for its launch.

While most players patiently wait for Resident Evil Village's release, some are probably wondering what Capcom plans for the series next. Although Capcom still has to officially lay out its plans for the future of Resident Evil, here is a breakdown of the games that could come next after the release of Resident Evil Village.
