A recent Reddit post made some bold claims about what fans can expect from the rumored Star Wars: Battlefront 3. Unfortunately, Reddit posts aren’t the most reliable source of information, and the alleged leak appears to be fake.

Reddit user This-Is-The-Way posted the alleged leak on Saturday. The post included what they claimed was an in-development background for a Star Wars: Battlefront 3 map set on planet Coruscant. However, Twitter user BattlefrontFR exposed the image as fake, calling the entire leak into question.

The original post made six claims about Star Wars: Battlefront 3, a game EA and DICE have not confirmed as in development. The first was that Coruscant and the popular Star Wars Expanded Universe character Ahsoka would feature prominently in the promotional material for Battlefront 3. The second claim was that Rosario Dawson would voice Ahsoka in the game. According to the post, DICE would base her on The Mandalorian’s version of the character. Other claims included rebalances to co-op, reworks to the Star Card and loadout systems, and merging Starfighter Assault and Galactic Assault into one mode. Moderators have since tagged the post as “False” on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit.

The lie unraveled after BattlefrontFR tweeted a five-minute video exposing the Coruscant background. All he had to do was type “Coruscant City” into the search bar for 3D model store Sketchfab. The alleged Battlefront 3 graphic was the fourth search result. Users can download the 3D model for free. Anyone with the right software could easily apply the background and details shown on the original post. As several social media users pointed out, this revelation destroys any credibility the leak might have had.

That is not to say the post had much credibility to begin with. Multiple commenters on the original thread raised questions about the leak’s authenticity. One pointed out the lack of sources in the original post. Others were suspicious of Ahsoka's casting, or that DICE would commit to a voice actor so early in development. The real blow came when someone involved in the industry pointed out that marketing strategy is almost always the last step in game development. For EA or DICE to be discussing it this early is very strange. Not to mention DICE is currently preoccupied with getting Battlefield 6 out the door before the end of the year.

Today’s revelation merely proved what many had already suspected. Saturday’s post was just one more case of someone creating a fake leak for a few days of online fame. The most interesting detail is how little effort the original poster seems to have spent on the forgery.

With the rumors of a remake being developed for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, many fans are wondering (and anxious) about what changes could be made to the game. Widely considered one of the best Star Wars games ever made, and by some the greatest game period, Knights of the Old Republic is now almost two decades old. As such, it's likely that many of its outdated features will be updated in any full-fledged remake. It is likely that the game will end up leaving the fully turn-based combat behind for some blend of real-time action with the original's iconic level of strategy. If this holds true, a KOTOR remake should take a look at the most successful recent single-player Star Wars game, Jedi: Fallen Order.
