Based on everything said about Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart thus far, the game is shaping up to be the biggest entry in the series. However, this does not mean that the game is going to take up a lot of space on PlayStation 5 consoles, as the install size for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is surprisingly low.

Previously, the file size for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was revealed to be 42.183 GB. Smaller than the PlayStation 5 exclusives Demon’s Souls and Returnal, the size surprised fans, especially given the game’s top-notch visuals. However, it seems like ray tracing and 60 FPS have not led to an overly large install size, as gamers shouldn't have to make too much room on their consoles. However, @PlayStationSize has revealed that the original file size was incorrect, updating fans with the proper GB count for the game.

Instead of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart taking up more storage space, though, it will actually take up less. The correction sees the game dropping a whole 9 GB from its original total. Now, it will sit at 33.618 GB for its day one download, making it even easier for fans to get the game downloaded quickly. With Ratchet and Clank 2016 taking up 23 GB, this sequel only using an additional 10 GB of storage space is particularly impressive. While this does not account for the game’s day one patch, the final total will likely be close to the 33 GB mark.

PlayStation Game Size explained the reasoning for the faulty data a week back, citing compression of the game’s PKG file on consoles. Previously, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered had used this compression tactic, with the result being a significantly smaller game. With both titles coming from Insomniac Games, it seems like this style of compression is becoming common practice for the studio, and the tactic should certainly please PlayStation fans. At only 33 GB, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s size is impressive.

For fans that want to make sure they have the latest entry in the Ratchet and Clank series downloaded and ready to go the second it is available, the pre-load date has also been revealed. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart can be pre-loaded starting on June 4, giving fans a full week to get the game installed before launch. Once June 11 comes around, those that have purchased a digital version of the PS5 exclusive should have no problem playing right at midnight.

With the game only two and a half weeks away from its official release date, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart fans will not have to wait much longer to enjoy it. Despite its small file size, the sequel is shaping up to be a memorable new adventure for the lovable Lombax and his robotic companion.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is rapidly approaching its release, with many fans excited to see what the latest next-gen PlayStation exclusive has to offer. What makes Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart's release particularly exciting is that it is the first Ratchet and Clank game to be released since 2016, and, interestingly is following on from 2013's Into the Nexus. Despite the game's announcement kind of coming out of the blue last year, Rift Apart was a long time coming.
