The video game community is arguably a strong force to be reckoned with, especially when large player bases consolidate their efforts online. Recently, the fans of Persona have gone on Twitter to post about Atlus’s iconic role-playing game series using the specific #personaisoverparty hashtag. This has caused the topic to trend on the online platform, and seems to have no conclusive reason behind it trending at all.
With several titles under the Persona series that have been released over some decades, the franchise has amassed a large amount of fans and followers around the world. According to the platform’s “What’s happening” column, the hashtag is trending due to the series’ fans joking about how they are done with Persona video games.
Some of the Twitter users who posted using the hashtag talked about "cancelling" the Persona series, but in a seemingly sarcastic manner, while many shared their fondest moments and memories from the series. Other fans posted meme-worthy content that say specific characters such as Goro Akechi from Persona 5 and Junpei Iori from Persona 3 are the main reasons why the Persona series should be over. There were also some fans who posted their own creative content such as Persona 5 fan art and video clips that fit into the theme of cancelling the game.
Nevertheless, this goes to show that the Persona fanbase is seemingly active and healthy. The community was able to produce such a large turnout of fan interactions, even though the trending topic was not even related to official game news. Hopefully the Atlus development team behind the Persona series will take notice, and that official announcements about what is next for the video game franchise will be made sooner rather than later.
As the fifth game has solidified the franchise's worldwide appeal, so many new fans are jumping into the Persona series for the first time. After the critical and commercial successes of Persona 5/Persona 5 Royal, alongside the surprising success of Persona 4 Golden on PC, the Atlus JRPG series has never been more popular. Luckily, the series largely functions like Final Fantasy, in that every mainline entry is mostly different from one another. Even still, many new players wanting to go back and play the older games should realistically only go back as far as Persona 3, since previous efforts don't exactly run parallel with the modern series' offering.
