Mod Support May Come to STALKER 2 on Xbox Consoles
GSC Game World is currently exploring the feasibility of including mod support for Xbox consoles in its upcoming first-person shooter STALKER 2. STALKER benefitted from a modding community that sought to improve the game's design flaws, and GSC Game World public relations manager Zakhar Bocharov says the developer recognizes the need to include modding support for STALKER 2. STALKER 2 is a PC and Xbox Series X exclusive, and GSC Game World is trying to provide modding support for both platforms.
STALKER 2 has been in development for some time. The game was originally announced back in 2010, but its development was cancelled in 2012. Development resumed in 2018, and fans of the franchise were hoping the game might release sometime in 2021. However, the latest development update for STALKER 2 did not mention a release date despite developer GSC Game World ensuring the process was "progressing smoothly."
In a recent episode of a Russian podcast, Bocharov talked about GSC Game World's commitment to prioritizing mod support for PC and discussed mod support for Xbox Series X as well. Bocharov said that even though "[t]he Xbox ecosystem is completely different," GSC Game World's discussions with Microsoft have gone well and, "Microsoft [is] extremely supportive with all our ideas so far."
Bocharov reiterated to Kotaku that even though the developers are exploring Xbox mod support for STALKER 2, GSC Game World is not ready to make an official announcement just yet. No Xbox Series X game has included mod support so far, but the next-gen console is capable of playing older games with mod support like The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. The GSC Game World team will take its time with the Xbox Series X mod support, if it happens, to ensure the support is optimized.
STALKER 2 will come to Xbox Game Pass on day one, and the game will feature a new protagonist named Skif. The game also boasts 4K and ray-tracing capabilities, so hopefully GSC Game World will be able to come out with mod support for STALKER 2 and give Xbox owners a chance to get creative.
