The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers showrunner Steven Brill wants Joshua Jackson's Charlie Conway in season 2. The Disney+ show is currently in the middle of season 1 after premiering in March. A follow up to the original '90s film series, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers centers on 12-year-old Evan (Brady Noon), who starts his own hockey team after being cut from the Mighty Ducks. Evan is assisted by his mom, Alex (Lauren Graham), and Coach Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez, reprising his role from the original movies).

Though The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers has included references to the films throughout season 1, episode 6 took it a step further and brought back six of the original Mighty Ducks: Lester Averman (Matt Doherty), Connie Moreau (Marguerite Moreau), Adam Banks (Vincent LaRusso), Guy Germaine (Garrette Henson), Ken Wu (Justin Wong), and Fulton Reed (Elden Henson). It was an exciting treat for those who enjoyed the franchise in the '90s. However, not all of the original Ducks appeared, including Jackson's Charlie. Luckily, Brill is hopeful that will change if The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers is renewed for season 2.

Speaking with ComicBook, Brill discussed his hopes for another season, including the story he has in mind for Charlie and Gordon if Jackson is able to appear:

Yeah. I know the story. We know the story. You just never know, is Josh Jackson going to be able to show up next year if we write it? I hope. I'd do anything to work with him again. But the character, yeah, we didn't get to explore it deeply in this season, but, I think, as and if we go on, for sure, I want to explore what happened with him and Gordon and with his mom, and does Gordon Bombay have a child? Do we even know that answer? And what happened to his law degree? And all these different questions that we want to get to.

Later on, Brill spoke more definitively about characters returning for a potential season 2, saying, "But we will, we'll have everyone. Everyone's going to come back next year if we get another season." It's worth noting that viewers do have some idea of the relationship between Gordon and Charlie in the present-day, as Fulton implies Charlie had no interest in attending the Mighty Ducks reunion because of Gordon's absence in his life. This remark and Brill's comments mean there's a lot of potential story ideas for Charlie in season 2.

Of course, it depends on The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers getting renewed. Season 2 seems possible and even likely at this point given the name recognition of the series and how well the franchise fits Disney's brand. The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers also has the nostalgia factor many are looking for these days, and it sounds like there are no plans to pull back on that in season 2. Provided it works with Jackson's schedule, it would be exciting to see Charlie and Coach Bombay together again. Their relationship was arguably the most important one in the original film series, and even a brief appearance by Jackson would mean a lot to audiences. Hopefully, it all works out, and Brill is able to tell the story he has in mind for The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers season 2.
