2020 featured quite a number of excellent video game releases, but one that left a lot of players surprised and impressed by was Hades. With its complex, yet addictive gameplay loop, gorgeous art direction, and a cacophony of memorable characters, Hades certainly has a lot to offer players. The game has gone on to win numerous awards, including a couple from the South by Southwest Awards.

Despite having only developed four titles in over a decade, Supergiant Games has garnered a tremendous amount of success with the release of Hades. Since its release in October of last year, the game has won several accolades, including a significant number of Game of the Year awards. Now, with the SXSW Awards now wrapped up, Hades is taking home yet another Game of the Year award.

Of the many games nominated at the SXSW Game Awards 2021, Hades managed to take home two awards, one for Excellence in Game Design and the other being Game of the Year. This should make plenty of Hades fans very happy as the game has already won multiple Game of the Year awards from other venues.

For a game that was developed by such a comparatively smaller studio, Hades has managed to impress many who have played it. The game has also left a great impact in terms of LGBTQ+ representation, winning Game of the Year at the Gayming Awards 2021. It truly is amazing how much Hades has accomplished in such an admittedly small timeframe and it seems as though there's a lot more in store for the game.

As of a couple of days ago, Hades received its physical release on Nintendo Switch. While the game is currently available only on PC and Nintendo Switch, many fans are anticipating further cross-platform releases for Hades to arrive some time in the future. Though, as of right now, it is impossible to know when fans can expect something like that to happen.

In any case, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Hades. Compared to Supergiant Games' previous titles, such as Bastion and Transistor, Hades has gained an extensive amount of popularity, to the point where the game has appeared prominently in several different video game award shows. Some fans are hoping that Hades will receive some form of DLC, but given the lack of DLC found on any of Supergiant Games' previous titles, it doesn't seem likely. Then again, given the massive amount of popularity Hades has achieved, it could be possible.

Releasing a game in early access puts a lot of developers in a strange balancing act where players are more forgiving because development clearly isn't finished, but the launch has to really step the game up past what players have seen. Few developers have taken as full advantage of this type of strategy as Supergiant Games with Hades, which first entered early access on the Epic Games Store back in 2018.

In a recent interview with Game Rant, Supergiant Creative Director Greg Kasavin commented on this type of development process and where the decision to make the game Early Access stemmed from. Given the stellar reception that this title has enjoyed, it would appear that Hades certainly did manage to make the best of what Supergiant intended when putting the game into the hands of players so early on.
