God of War fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Sony Santa Monica Studio's popular franchise are theorycrafting where the story could be headed next following 2018's installment. The PlayStation 4 exclusive, billed as a soft reboot of Kratos' story prior to its release, sees the titular deity, having finally achieved vengeance against the Greek Pantheon, relocate to the realm of Midgard for a slice of the quiet life.

Unbeknownst to Gaming's Angriest Man, this strange new land is also ruled over from behind the scenes by a family of gods and it's not long before they take a collective interest in the Ghost of Sparta and his young son, Atreus. Players who have not finished the 2018 should beware of spoilers. As gamers who have seen the pair's journey through to its end will surely know, of course, Atreus is revealed towards God of War's climax to actually be the trickster god Loki, a name originally given to him by his mother Faye before her passing.

The ramifications of this connection to Norse mythology are expected to be explored further in this year's anticipated Ragnarok sequel and Reddit user Wings_Of_Reedemption thinks they've found a potential link as to where the plot could be headed. Prefacing their prediction with "You have been warned," they suggest that Thor and Loki will share common maternal parentage as the former's mother is yet to be named or revealed.

Wings_Of_Reedemption elaborates their belief that Faye and Odin conceived Thor long before she met Kratos which, if accurate, would make the God of Thunder and Loki half brothers. If true, the revelation would result in the pair sharing a similar blood connection to that depicted in Marvel Comics and the MCU, but there are some obvious plot holes worth pointing out here. Responding to the thread in question, user Damien_Sin states that in one of Atreus' notes, Thor is said to be the son of Odin and Fjorgyn, the latter of which died long before God of War and may have been killed by Thor himself.

This certainly calls into question the likelihood that Wings_Of_Reedemption's theory will come to fruition, then, but all's not lost. Santa Monica Studio has already established a fondness for misdirection by initially hiding Loki's identity and could well opt to do something similar with Faye. Fans will hopefully learn more about Kratos and Atreus' next adventure during this year's annual E3 festivities and the summer reveal season.

The death of Faye, Kratos' second wife and the mother of Atreus, is the inciting incident of 2018's God of War. A powerful warrior and a master manipulator, many of the events that unfold over the course of the game all turn out to be part of Faye's plan.

Based on what's known about Faye's role in events so far, the character could continue to be highly influential in God of War's upcoming Ragnarok sequel. Here are all the reasons that Faye may still have a big role to play during Ragnarok, even if she is never seen directly.
