Call of Duty League's second season is just getting underway, and if the first week is anything to go by, the league is quite popular. Viewership was up for the Call of Duty League's first week matches over last year's numbers. The fledgling league is looking to find a bigger audience this season after a well-received first season. However, it appears that the momentum might stall out just a bit as the Call of Duty League made the decision to postpone this week's matches due to something out of their control.

The Call of Duty League, or CDL, changed up the format for its second season, moving to a 4 vs. 4 setup instead of 5 vs. 5, while also adjusting points earned per match and the general playoff structure. All of these changes were made under the supervision of CDL Commissioner Johanna Faries with input from the competitive community as well. The result is a league that viewers are tuning in for, and a scene that professional players want to be a part of.

While the CDL would like to build on the momentum of a well-received first week of matches, the league made the decision to delay this week's matches due to the power outages caused by winter storms in Texas. A number of pros who play Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and participate in the CDL are based in Texas, and if a match were to be lost due to a power outage or an internet connectivity issue caused by the weather, it would be a shame.

The League's statement tells those curious to look for an announcement at 12pm PT/ 3pm ET tomorrow (February 18th) which will cover the revised schedule. Despite the setback, the CDL is still in a good place, which is more than can be said for the Ranked Play mode recently introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. After its debut last week, it became apparent that there are definitely going to need to be some tweaks to the system, after a number of Call of Duty pros were ranked in the lower brackets of the mode.

There is a lot going on in the Call of Duty universe right now, as players in both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone are gearing up for Season 2 to start. The cinematic trailer for Season 2 of Black Ops Cold War was just revealed, and it has fans excited for the new content on the way. Fans can also look forward to the CDL returning to action just as soon as the winter weather decides to relent.

The Call of Duty series is certainly no stranger to success, but the franchise has now reached new heights. Fresh off the success of Call of Duty: Warzone comes Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. While this is the seventeenth game in the series, the Call of Duty franchise shows no signs of depreciation. Review scores for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War were generally lower than previous installments in the franchise, but only by a small margin.

Now, the NPD Group has reported the new installment is one of the best-selling games of all time. Per the NPD’s January sales statement, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has now broken the top 20 in US game sales. For a game that has only been on the market since November 2020, this is a massive feat. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War now stands amongst some of the best-known games of all time.
