The internet's latest gaming craze, Among Us, is going old school thanks to one fan's nostalgic recreation. Even though an online multiplayer social deduction game was far beyond the capabilities of the original PlayStation when it was released back in 1994, a re-imagining of Among Us for the console is incredibly authentic.

Among Us became one of the biggest games during the COVID-19 pandemic, as gamers sought new avenues to interact with friends and colleagues in the midst of isolation. Innersloth originally released among us back in 2018, but it became a massive hit after several notable streamers began playing Among Us together. The mix of sabotage and mistrust, combined with the collaborative nature of the gameplay made Among Us infinitely replayable with friends. Since its spike in popularity, Among Us has seen a flood of new content from Innersloth, including new crewmate colors, maps, and other cosmetics.

Some of the biggest Among Us news, though, was that the game would be coming to PlayStation 4 & 5 in 2021. One fan, Youtuber Wooden Turtle, wasn't content to wait for the release. Instead, Wooden Turtle created a teaser for Among Us in the style of a survival horror game for the original PlayStation. The teaser features the classic PlayStation introduction, mid-90s graphics, and a sample of gameplay, which begins at the 3:00 mark.

Since the online multiplayer aspects of Among Us wouldn't have been possible in 1994, the collaborative gameplay is removed from this reimagining. There are no other players to interact with or deceive, instead the player is made to complete familiar tasks like connecting the correct wires to repair the Skeld. The gameplay makes reference to well-known areas of the ship, including Admin and the cafeteria. And, even though there are no other players in the game, the teaser still includes other crewmates and the Impostor. In this case, the teaser shows another crewmate floating through space, presumably after being ejected, and one seemingly innocent crewmate morphing into the horrifying Impostor.

Even though this fan-made teaser changes the spirit of Among Us, Wooden Turtle really needs to be commended for the accuracy of how they translated a game from 2018 to the graphics and controls of the mid-90s. The video's design and graphics are very similar to Crash Bandicoot or Twisted Metal. In addition, the character's slow movement and the clunky display for tasks also mirror games of that generation. Even though it's much more fun to play Among Us with friends, trying to figure out who the Impostor is, this nostalgia trip certainly keeps the spirit of the game alive.

A charming stop motion animation of Among Us’ crewmates has turned the characters into roommates that are having fun in a dollhouse. The video was done with real-life toys, which shouldn’t be surprising, considering how often the social deduction game is being featured in various real-life projects.

Quite recently, Among Us has inspired one of its youngest fans, an eight-year-old kid, to create a homemade plush of a pink crewmate. Shared by their parent, the adorable doll was immediately noticed by the developer on Twitter. This was probably the most valuable recognition the project received, although the whole thread on the social media platform expressed universal love for the child’s creation. Now, a more elaborate and professional approach to creating real-life Among Us-inspired stuff has been demonstrated by a grown-up animator.
