After years of waiting, THQ Nordic and Experiment 101 have finally announced the release date for their open world action-RPG Biomutant. Coming on May 25, 2021, the game is emerging from a series of delays that impacted its release date by several years. When the game was first announced in late 2017, it was slated for a 2018 launch. A year later, Biomutant was delayed to summer 2019, and was then delayed indefinitely once that window was reached. After popping back up during the summer of 2020, there’s finally a solid date.

However, all those delays haven’t stopped THQ Nordic from announcing Biomutant’s special editions. These were announced back in 2019, but by all accounts, they are still available for pre-order and their contents haven’t changed. Right now, eager fans have three editions to choose from, available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.

The regular game with no extra merchandise or special flourishes clocks in at the usual $59.99 USD. Unusually for this day and age, it has no announced pre-order bonuses, but everything from its combat to Biomutant's character creation may be incentive enough for many fans. Regardless, there may be changes in the leadup to launch, but with said launch only being a couple months away, it's more likely to stay this way. The game can be pre-ordered from retailers and websites such as Amazon, and it has pages up for wish lists on Steam and the Microsoft Store.

For those who want a bit more bang for their bucks, there is the Biomutant Collector’s Edition. Running $109.99 USD for PC and $119.99 for consoles, this comes in a special premium box featuring the default main character. The Biomutant protagonist is plastered all over this edition, appearing on the game box, the official soundtrack case, and the artwork on A1-sized fabric. There is even a high-quality figurine depicting the character. It’s a good package, but for those looking for the best, there’s a potential step further.

The Biomutant Atomic Edition clocks in at a whopping $399.99, and not without reason. The premium box is massive now, and sports new art teasing its contents. The new high-detail diorama is a 60cm/23" long, 25cm/10" wide, and 30cm/12" tall recreation of a clash between the protagonist and a heavy enemy. Aside from the game, soundtrack CD, and artwork on A1-sized fabric from the Collector’s Edition, the Atomic Edition also comes with a steelbook, a large or extra large T-shirt, and a large mousepad sized 80cm/31" x 35cm/14". There’s a bit more original art in this edition, so devoted collector’s may want to spring for this.

There were a couple trailers released for the two special editions, but both of them have been privatized since the last delay. There’s a chance they could resurface near launch once THQ Nordic really starts pushing Biomutant’s marketing. More pre-order sources should also appear as the release draws closer. As long as the game doesn’t get delayed again — and it shouldn’t, as Experiment 101 has been hard at work squashing bugs recently — Biomutant and its merch will be in fans’ hands soon.
