When it comes to cult classic franchises that many fans hold in high regard, Capcom's Okami franchise is a strong contender. While the original game, released in 2006 and 2008 on the PS2 and Wii respectively, went largely unnoticed for the general public, the HD remaster of Okami in 2012 captured the hearts of many.

Okami's use of world-building with folklore origins, unique ink wash painting visuals, and lovable cast brought attention to a wider audience over time, including for the protagonist Amaterasu. Amaterasu, the sun goddess, takes the form of a wolf that several characters take note to mention is charming. Such charm has also been the base for Okami-related merchandise over the years.

The Capcom Cafe in Ikebukuro recently announced a collaboration with Okami starting on June 4, 2021, where it will sell exclusive merchandise. The Capcom Cafe event will occur shortly after the previous Monster Hunter Rise event that ended in April. The item that arguably stands out the most from this Okami crossover is an adorable Amaterasu sleeping mask priced at 1,980 JPY, or about $18 USD.

Other merchandise that will be sold during the Okami event include an acrylic clock, a phone stand, a mini towel, and a file folder, all including unique artwork exclusive to Capcom Cafe. Other expected goods such as pins, stickers, and keychains will also be available for purchase, although items including paper clips and cherry blossom scented bath salts are on the more unique and interesting side of the spectrum.

Fans who are wary of breaking the bank with their purchases will be happy to note that the most expensive item in this collection, the acrylic clock, checks in at 3,850 JPY or about $35 USD. That alone is cheaper than the oversized Amaterasu plush sold during Okami's 14th anniversary event in November, which retailed at almost $71 USD. The future of the Okami series outside of cute plushies and sleeping masks remains uncertain, although it has been a talking point for several of the staff that worked on the title.

Hideki Kamiya, who was the director of Okami, pitched a potential Okami 2 alongside Bayonetta 3 in the past. Most notably, Ikumi Nakamura, who was part of the development team for Okami, had expressed interest in pitching the idea for a sequel to Capcom, with the proposal that Kamiya will have a director role. With Capcom attending E3 this year, it is wishful thinking for fans to expect any Okami news, but the possibility is there.

While it's easy to assume that Okami has been completely forgotten, the series' legacy does continue to survive to this day. Capcom may not be making a new sequel any time soon, but the company clearly remembers it and is aware of its popularity, with main protagonist Amaterasu being added to the crossover card game Teppen. It also licenses it out so new merchandise can be made, like this recently announced Nendoroid figure of Shiranui.

The figure is obviously still in development and GoodSmile hasn't provided anything resembling a release window, but all that remains is for it to be colored in. And judging by the responses, fans are excited to pre-order it.
